Start with reliable income
A budget is a forecast, not your bank balance. Separate income you reasonably expect from uncertain bonuses or refunds. List commitments, flexible spending and money you want to set aside.
Work through an example
With €2,000 income, €1,150 commitments, €450 flexible spending and €200 for a goal, the planned margin is €200. This is an illustration, not a universal allocation. An unexpected €80 expense reduces it to €120: your spending room changes with actual transactions.
Plan for infrequent bills
A €600 annual insurance bill has a €50 monthly equivalent. That helps planning; it is not an extra payment to record every month. If the bill is due in three months and nothing is saved, preparing it requires €200 per month instead.
Review briefly each week
Compare your plan with real entries. Adjust optimistic estimates or postpone flexible spending. Record each payment once in WalletLane and use planning to assess the remaining room.
Put it into practice with WalletLane
Record what actually happens, compare it with your plan and revisit your goals when the month changes.
